David Franklin Cook
David Franklin Cook, 73, a former resident of Sunburst, passed away on April 29 at his home in Bordentown, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family and cats. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
He was born at Great Falls on Sept. 25, 1946, to Thomas D. and Dorothy (Senese) Cook. His father’s family was early residents in Toole County. Dave was raised and attended school at Sunburst until about 1959 when Texaco closed their facility and Dave’s father took a position in Anacortes, Wash. Dave attended high school in Burlington, Wash., graduating in 1964.
He attended Saint Martin’s College but finished his degree at the University of Puget Sound. After a brief time with the Daily Olympian he headed east working as a writer for Metals Week and later worked for ASARCO and in the mining industry and in lead recycling.
Dave was proud to be from Montana and his roots included Scottish via Australia, French-Canadian, Canada First Nations and Italian ancestors. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees. He was not shy about sharing his opinion to anyone on any subject. He stayed in touch with relatives and classmates in Montana and attended a junior high reunion at least once.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1995 and father in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter, Christine Cook (Timm Chartier); son, Robert Cook (Lizzie Braff); sister, Barbara Aldrich (Steve); brother, Carmen Cook (Kathy); grand-daughter, Luella Cook Chartier; a nephew and two nieces, as well as many cousins and friends.
