After completing kindergarten through 8th grade in Sunburst, I moved to Anacortes WA in the last quarter of my freshman year, when my dad, Ed Deaton was transferred with Texaco. My body left Montana, but my soul never did.
After High School I spent a year in California Working on farms and Ranches and attending Santa Rosa JC. I then retuned to Washington worked at various jobs and attended Skagit Valley College. In 1963 I went to work as a mechanic in a Honda Motorcycle Dealership. I married in 1964 and shortly after moved to Concrete, Wa where I worked in a Cement Plant, mostly as a Kiln Burner. In 1968 I went back to work at the Honda Dealership and my brother Walt, class of 65 also went to work at the dealership and we eventually bought out the previous owners and continued to operated the business until we
sold in 2004. I divorced in 1993 and began thinking more and more about Montana. In 1999 my current wife, Linda and I bought 20 Acres between Anaconda and Deer Lodge and began building a log home. We were married on the property in July of 2000. I obtained my Real Estate license in 2003 and purchased Anaconda Realty in 2004 and obained by broker's license in 2005. I am still active in the Real Estate Business. My wife Linda is a retired school administrator and until the end of last year was teaching at Montana Tech in Butte and University of Montana Western in Dillon.
I very much enjoy being back in Montana and have been active in the Anaconda Community.
Currently I am on the County Tax Appeal Board,
Chamber of Commerce Board, Treasurer and a founding member of the Anaconda Main Street Program, past president and co founder of Anaconda's Alive After FIve. I also serve on the Executive Board for the Butte Board of Realtors.
I feel very fortunate to have grown up in Sunburst. The values and work ethic I learned from family, friends and teachers remain very important to me to this day. |

School Story: |
|
I have great memories of my school days in Sunburst and some not so good.
I remember a bunch of us put Mr Buker's VW cross wise on the steps of the grade school and when Mr Billedeaux mentioned in to Mr Buker in front of some of us, Mr Buker said " I knew when I bought that car it would be a Toy for 1/2 the kids in town.
I remember having a great time when our 8th grade class made an over night trip to Helena to see the Legislature in action.
In the 8th grade Mr. Billedeaux catching Curly and I drag racing before school and spending the 1st 1/2 hour of class chewing me out. Later that year when we had The Moon Light Walk to the Black Hills, Mr Billedeaux asked me to take my car in case there was an emergency. Before I had him for a teacher I was half afraid of him, but as his student that fear became a healthy respect and a true admiration.
Anyone remember a big dent in the roof of Marv Alme's green Plymouth?
How about Sharon Lawson being stopped by the Town Marshall in her Dad's Jeep?
The week I left for Washington, we piled as many kids as we could into my 48 Chevy to go lunch. Mr Lawson called me into his office and asked when I was leaving. I replied this Friday. He gave me that stern smile of his and said" just don't drive to school the rest of the week" |
